Butter became the most expensive staple on the Russian shelf in 2024: by October 7 the average retail price reached 1,040 rubles per kilogram, up 20.2% since the start of the year and 25.9% year on year, while food prices overall rose 9.2%. It was also the only significant dairy category whose physical retail sales fell.
